Foreign Aid Set to Take a Hit in U.S. Budget Crisis

The financial crisis currently effecting the United States will soon start effecting the amount of foreign relief aid given to other countries. As the U.S. struggles to make budget cuts in face of massive national debt the House and Senate have proposed to slash financing for the State Department and all related aid agencies. This proposal has many people fearful of what this does to the U.S. image during humanitarian crisis and uncertain political developments. This includes large cuts out of food and medicine from Africa, relief in disaster affected areas such as Pakistan and Japan, and assistance in building democracies in the Middle East. Over the last year the spending has been cut from 55 to 49 billion, and republicans propose to bring it down to 47 billion for 2012.
