A New Era Coming in Bhutan

The small country of Bhutan has historically always been one of the most conservative states; cautiously welcoming globalization and democracy. Recently in 2008, the country switched from a monarchy to a parliamentary democracy. Even more recent was the passing of a law banning the smoking of tobacco in public, and one of the first citizens arrested was a monk for possessing a rather small amount of tobacco. In protest of the arrest, a younger male took to facebook and was greeted with many supporters. This is one act of rebellion by the younger generation that seems to be more liberal and accepting of globilozation. Many are starting believe that maybe this facebook protest is a sign that change is going to occur with the coming up of this new generation of thought.
