Obama wants the United Nations to release the information that shows that Iran is developing nuclear weapons, this evidence will put Iran in a really uncomfortable position but still it is not a definite proof of the development of a weapon taking place, instead it shows work on individual technologies essential for the design and detonation of a nuclear device. This is another step on an American effort to isolate Iran. From Iran's perspective these are just "fabrications" to justify an attack.
Apparently the data shows evidence from recent months, and it will revive the debate on how much pressure should the United States and its allies put on Iran to stop its nuclear program.
A group stands out: the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. They control the sell of petroleum products and oversee the military side of the nuclear program. Also, the US believes that they are behind the assassination plot, and this was the trigger to bring the debate back.
Releasing the information or a ban on financial transactions with Iran's central bank are some of the ideas to isolate Iran, and they would be powerful. Also, they are thinking about banning fuel purchases from Iran, or maybe request companies to not use Iranian crude oil. However, many US allies purchase large amounts of oil from Iran and pay through the Central Bank. But it is a controversial issue because any sanction carries political and economic risks. For example the IAEA is afraid of Iran ejecting its inspectors if they release the data, what would make them have no information at all about the nuclear activity. In addition, cutting off Iran's exports of oil could have unpredictable effects on price for Europe and the US, and the economies are weak now, and maybe not so effective because Iran will find new buyers or will sell through a middleman.
In any case the debate is back and the US and its allies are getting pressure to take tougher actions on Iran in order to force them to stop developing its nuclear program.
