U.S. defense secretary heads to Israel, then Egypt

Leon Panetta, US Defense Secretary departed on a journey to the Middle East, specifically Israel and Egypt. The Palestinian bid for statehood as caused increased tensions within the Israelis and to further complicate things, the Israelis have launched a plan to build 1000 homes in disputed territories in south Jerusalem. Furthermore, Palestinian President Mahmoud has declined to progress direct negotiations with Israel till they agree to halt their plans and go back to the territories prior to 1967.
Egypt is another nation Panetta has on his stop list. Since Mubarak's regime has fell, some political parties are getting heated up for action. The party that had taken over had promised many changes, but progress is indeed slow. Panetta also plans on stopping in Brussels for a NATO meeting to discuss matters regarding Libya, Afghanistan, and others.
