A Congressman’s Controversial Video

Rep. Paul Gosar posted an animated video on his Twitter profile earlier this week. The video depicted Gosar killing fellow congress member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and injuring President Biden. Rep. Ocasio-Cortez has spoken out about the video and how uncomfortable it made her. Fellow democrats defended her by saying that if this incident occurred at any other job, the individual would be fired and face consequences. Rep. Gosar has repeatedly claimed it’s not a big deal, but Nancy Pelosi disagrees, she called upon Leader Kevin McCarthy to address these behaviors, to which she received no response. This video points to the sense of great immaturity that has developed in politics recently. Petty actions like these can cause harm to leaders and the country as a whole. At the moment, Congress seems to be focused on thinking divisively and competitively, not logically. The political psychology present within our highest structures of government has greatly shifted in the twenty first century. What could this kind of behavior lead to on a domestic and international level? That’s the concern here.
