In the COP26 503 participants had ties to the fossil industry. This is a scary thing to consider when the whole point of the COP26 is climate change. Some people are beginning to question should the fossil fuel industry be allowed to have that big of a representation if one at all? The Global witness has found some startling statistics about the delegates in COP26. They found that over 100 fossil fuel companies were represented at COP26 and 30 trade memberships. They also found out that the fossil fuel lobby has more delegates than the worst 8 countries affected by climate change which drastically changes the influence over who has a say at COP26. One of the biggest groups with a high number of fossil fuel ties is the International Emissions Trading Association. Which had 3 delegates from BP. Some people are saying that if oil and gas companies continue to have such a big influence on the agenda then it will be hard to change policies for the betterment of our environment. Pascoe Sabido even said, "If we're serious about raising ambition, then fossil fuel lobbyists should be shut out of the talks."
