The city of Hyderbad, a city in Telangana state in India is one of the most surveilled cities in the world. The town has started to begin the construction of a 'Command and Control Centre' that will connect the state's facial recognition capable CCTV infrastructure in real-time. Telangana state has been a test site for increased usage of dangerous facial recognition technologies (FRT) against citizens. India has been known for using facial recognition technology in contexts where human rights are at stake such as policing protests. Facial recognition technology poses a high risk to human rights and Inda is ignoring that risk.
