Pelosi in Armenia

On Saturday, September 17, U.S. Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in Armenia to show support for the Caucasus nation after conflict with their neighbor Azerbaijan.  Pelosi met with Prime Minster Nikol Pashinyan and other officials to convey the U.S. support for Armenia.

While Pelosi was in Armenia, there was a cease-fire that lasted three days after an outburst with Azerbaijan, killing 200 troops on both sides. This is Armenia's worst conflict since the war in 2020, which killed thousands. Since Russia has begun to be weakened by Ukraine, Azerbaijan has pressured Pashinyan to agree to a peace deal that would identify Azerbaijan's sovereignty over the territory.
