The longest-reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II died September 8, 2022. Although this is rightfully seen as a tragedy for many individuals, we cannot turn a blind-eye to the Royal Family's racist history.
To start, the Royal Family has yet to pay the reparations, and even apologize for the Caribbean and African countries subjected to the salve trade under Great Britain's monarchy all between the years of 1765 to 1938. Under the monarchy, Britain has been a prominent imperialist power, which has stirred major backlash after the Queen's death. For example, Karen Attiah, a reporter for The Washington Post exclaimed, "Queen Elizabeth's passing is an appropriate time to look honestly at the harm the British empire caused, and to continue to undo the vestiges of racism, white supremacy, and economic deprivation".
