"US approves $1.1bn Taiwan arms sale, angering China" - BBC News

For context prior to reading this article, recently, China has had disputes over Taiwan, and whether or not Taiwan should become part of China. Taiwan is obviously in opposition to such ideas and would like to remain a sovereign state in the grand scheme of the international affairs.

Just a few days ago, The United States agreed to sell $1.1 billion in weaponry to Taiwan. Although this deal has been agreed upon by the two nations, the United States Congress still must vote in favor of the deal, but this is very likely seeing as the United States Congress is very pro-Taiwan. The arms deal is essential for the protection of Taiwan over China. There have been many rumors surrounding the situation, even ones saying that China has plans to invade Taiwan in order to claim their territory as their own. Obviously, China is quite upset with this deal. Seeing as China and the United States are heavily involved with trade between one another, China threatens "counter measures" possibly involving such trades if the United States does not revoke the deal. No measures have taken place so far, but it is nearly guaranteed a dispute of some sort will rise from this news.
