In this few weeks, 10 polio cases have found in Xinjiang in China, although she was declared as polio free over 10 years ago. The government started vaccination campaign, which is conducted in homes to public institutions. It is considered the virus came from Pakistan, in which polio virus still survive.
Since 1988, owing to worldwide vaccination and careful monitoring on the new cases, the number of polio cases has decreased to less than 1% around the world. However, it is still endemic in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria. Poor health facilities in some part of India, security issues in some regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan makes it difficult to eradicate polio virus. Also, shortage of money to spend on this project is a major challenge.
