According to BBC News, three people were killed in a clash. Among the dead were an adviser to the president and a bodyguard. This clash was connected to the local elections that were taking place in 23 local authorities. This also included the capital Colombo and its suburbs. Now the army has begun to take action and a curfew has been placed in Northern Colombo.
Automatic assault riffles were used in the clashed in which Bharatha Lakhsman was killed along with a bodyguard. The violence shows that even though the government states that they have won the fight against terrorism, politics is still underpinned with violence.
