22 Dead Means the End of Football in Egypt

The Egyptian authorities have suspended all football matches indefinitely after a riot in Cairo left 22 people dead. The match between Zamalek and ENPPI, the Cairo city rivaling teams, caused the riots which occurred on Sunday evening. The riot was lead by the White Knights, a group which supports Zamalek. A warrant is out for the arrest of the leaders of the White Knights. The fans are blaming the authorities for only leaving one gate open for them to get through. The leagues were suspended in 2012 after similar riots occurred which killed 74 people. Witnesses recapped that "the security forces began firing tear gas and birdshot all over the place." Another stated that "we were carrying people away to save them getting trampled to death."
Although this article was fairly short because the news just came about a few hours ago, the photos from this article are magnificent. There are about five different pictures of different scenes from the riot. Masked men, Egyptian authorities, flames and more are depicted in these pictures. It seems jarring to think that as I am sitting here writing about this event, people could still be in the streets, rioting for their cause as they are in the images shown.
