According to this article, Obama has listed several things as being threats to national security. One of these threats being the threat of terrorists. Now the United States does not have very many friends in the middle east. Furthermore, we have not been too good of friends with Russia either. In fact, Russia was listed as another one of the threats for the national security of the United States. Now, it seems to me that we have taken one step forward only to then take a step back. We have made so much progress with relations with Russia. When I was born, the Soviet Union was starting to fall apart. We were far from friends for a long time. Then, things really shaped up between the two countries. Now though, Russia has made a lot of decisions that are questionable at the very least. How long will it continue? How long will Russia be able to essentially whatever it wants? This kind of sounds like history repeating itself. There story differs slightly from the beginning of World War II. Germany was doing a lot of things that the world community did not agree with. However, no one really wanted to stand up to Germany. Eventually it was too late and the world had plunged into a its second world war. In today case, Russia seems to be doing whatever it wants. Yes, the world has disagreed with the actions of Russia. However, no one has anything to gain from helping Ukraine. Not politically nor economically. As a result and in my opinion, the world needs to act before it is too late. I am not sure exactly what needs to be done because I am not sure what the options are for this situation. I do think that SOMETHING has to be done though to stop this from going too far. What is being done now, does not seem to be getting the job done nor the message across.
