Russia Vs. US: Ukraine Edition PART TWO!

So, last week I was talking about how the US was thinking about sending weapons to help Ukraine fight off the rebels.
Russia kind of feels the same way I do about this whole issue. Apparently Putin is saying that supplying arms could... ""expand the war and turn it into a real threat to the whole European security system.""
They are comparing the US's involvement in the Ukraine to the US's involvement in Vietnam. It starts with weapons, then it leads to troops and anyone who has seen the photographs from that war knows that it is not a very proud piece of American history. Civilians were killed and/or worse, and no one supported the war. I have to agree there, the US is definitely going to escalate things by getting involved.
However, this is quite a complicated issue. Although the government claims it isn't getting involved, the article says there are Russian 'volunteers' hopping over to help the cause. If the rebels take over all of the Ukraine, does this make the Ukraine a part of Russia (or the Soviet Union) again? When there is that kind of threat, of Russia expanding again, it seems beneficial for the U.S. to get involved to prevent Russian take-over. But again, there will undoubtedly be significantly more blood in the Ukraine is the U.S. ups the anti on the rebels.
