A recently released German documentary, Putin the Man, has made some striking claims about the Russian leader. This documentary was aired on the ZDF, a German television station, earlier this week. One such claim was that Putin used to beat his ex-wife Lyudmila (whom he divorced in 2013,) on a regular basis.The documentary stated that it had received its information from a unidentified western-intelligence agency, specifically for the information pertaining to Putin's involvement as a KGB officer in the 1980's. Another one was that Putin has allegedly accused of receiving Botox injections for a face-lift, which may be due to his fear of his inevitable mortality. Furthermore, the documentary discussed how inconsiderate the public official was to other important figures, giving the example of how he made Queen Elizabeth II wait a thirty minutes for him. The documentary wrapped up by essentially labeling him a threat on a international level due to his hunger for power, and it reminds the audience that he is estimated to own over two-hundred billion dollars, so he is a economic force to be reckoned with.
How much of this documentary is true is completely up to scrutiny, but this sensational documentary will most likely lead to a reaction by Putin and the Russian government. What remains unclear is how extremely they will react, and how this will influence Putin's actions in the Ukraine and other regions.
