Recently North Korea announced threats of the US's 'Final Doom' (ABC Source), but days later it is revealed that North Korea might be in for another food shortage. On February 7, 2015, the Washington Post published an article titled "Dry winter sparks fears of another food crisis in North Korea." The article mentions that North Korea's common issue is nutrition as opposed to the lack of food; however, this harsh winter may cause a shortage on top of the preexisting conditions in the country. In the developed world though, this is hardly the case. The United States is notorious for a food surplus and oftentimes the surplus is discarded. If North Korea had not been on the US's bad side for an extended period of time (let alone not made the recent threat(s)) then perhaps a deal could have been struck to help the country out. But this is one discussion we will not be seeing anytime soon, regardless of the food situation in North Korea. The lesson to be learned today is to not burn any potential bridges you might have, and in the event that you can create new ones or rebuild former ones - then it should be done. While North Korea was busy making threats against the U.S. and engaging in cyber-warfare; nature was threatening their food supply. How will North Korea respond to the external forces? We will just have to wait and see.
