A Filipino-American woman by the name of Gerfa Yeatts Lunsmann was kidnapped on July 12, more than two months ago, while on vacation visiting family and staying at a resort in the southern Philippines. Today, she was finally freed. Though born in the Philippines, Lunsmann was adopted and brought to the United States, where she was raised, and she now lives in Virginia. Visiting her old homeland was nothing new for her; she had visited at least five times before the vacation that lead to her kidnapping. Unfortunately, while Lunsmann goes free, it is believed that her 14-year-old American son and 19-year-old Filipino nephew are still being held. It is not yet clear how she was freed or whether a ransom was paid. The men who seized the three vacationers are suspected to be Abu Sayyaf militants.
