Ebola: Attackers kill DR Congo journalist shining light on virus

The article I read was about a journalist who was killed in the Democratic Republic of Congo whilst raising awareness of the Ebola virus, and how to prevent it from spreading. The journalist who was killed was Papy Mumbere Mahamba who was killed in his home in Lwebma when 3 unidentified attackers broke into his house, killing him and injuring his wife. Currently the Democratic Republic of Congo is facing it's 2nd worst Ebola outbreak on record, which is why it is confusing and upsetting to me as to why people would kill a man who was trying to spread awareness and help reduce the outbreak. However as the article reports, many in the area who are working to stop the spread of the virus are targeted because there is widespread belief that the virus is not real and therefore medical clinics and people who speak out about the virus are target. This is strange to me because one would think that if they saw people getting sick and dying from sicknesses they would believe Ebola was real. This also reminds me of the anti-vaccine movement and distrust of science currently, which is disappointing because many of these medical professionals are trying to help people but because of that their lives are at risk.
