New Delhi is Choking on Smog

New Delhi the capital of India is expected to suffer record levels of smog for at least a week despite the local government’s efforts to take emergency precaution to try to fight against the capital’s heavily polluted air. The thick smog was more than 3 times the designated “hazardous” level according to the global air quality index recently. And these dangerous levels of smog are the worst that has been seen in more than 3 years. Therefore a public health emergency has been declared in New Delhi. It’s sad to know that the working class Delhiites have no choice though other than to go to work even in these hazardous climate conditions. Only the people who can afford to are staying at home while it becomes ‘safer’ to go outside again. And since smog can be a deadly form of pollution that can lead to higher rates of health related problems such as stroke, heart attack, diabetes, lung cancer, and chronic lung disease hopefully India will be able to implement more measures to fight the deadly smog in it’s air.
