While this article shows that not much has happened as of yet outside of Obama landing in Vietnam and basically taking a car to his hotel, the possibilities for what is to be discussed in the upcoming days between US and Vietnamese heads of state seem complex and interesting. To be honest, I was unaware that Vietnam had so many problems. I knew that their ties to China existed, but I had no idea the extent. It seems like this meeting with Obama is going to be very productive for Vietnam. I think that even with the communist based elections Vietnam has, the article makes it seem like Vietnam is ready to start considering a possibility of better relations with the U.S. and will be looking to move away from China. Even if this decision is a choice for Vietnamese between the lesser of two evils. The discussion of TPP in this article was somewhat interesting also. It discusses how the TPP is going to help Vietnam immensely. What I found interesting though was not that, but the fact that now all the countries who have signed on need to wait for it to pass congress. It's just strange to see an example of our politics slowing down, (maybe?), diplomacy of the world.
