An Egyptian Islamic State affiliate has taken responsibility for
an early morning attack on the Egyptian Police. Reports indicate that eight
members of the police force, including one officer, were driving through Cairo
on a routine security check when four gunmen in a pickup truck opened fire,
spraying the minibus with automatic fire. All inside were killed.
The assailants, which the IS statement referred to as “soldiers of
the caliphate, were not injured in the attack and left with several Egyptian
Police firearms. Egyptian security forces have sealed off a hilly area as they conduct
searches for the gunmen. \
The attack apparently came in response to “the improvement of pure
women in Egyptian jails.
