Recently, the Honduran police charged five suspects for the murder of Berta Caceres, an activist for the indigenous and environmental causes who was shot dead in her home last March.
The activist of 45 years of age was recently known for her campaign against Agua Zarca, which is one of the nation's largest hydropower projects. Agua Zarca, a dam that was set to be put in place, would be stunted the flow of the Gualcarque River, which is sacred and used for vital life for a Honduran Indigenous group, the Lenca people.
These suspects have been linked to the organization, DESA, which is heading the Agua Zarca dam project. Although the company has publicly stated that their organization had nothing to do with the murder of Berta Caceres, many foreign investors (including European) have withdrawn from the investment stunting the continuation of the hydropower project.
