Philippines President-elect Duterte Plans On Pushing Forward Capital Punishment Legislation

Outspoken President-elect of the Philippines, Rodrigo Duterte plans on revisiting an abolished capital punishment law handed down in 2006. On top of that, he would give security forces the right to "shoot-to-kill" criminals if they are the leaders of organized crime or resisting arrest.

He has said "Forget the laws on human rights" when asked about how he would deal with drug dealers.

These comments come from a long line of seemingly outrageous comments that he has stated, giving him a very Donald Trump-esque vibe to his presidency. He has said that he would kill criminals without trial, made jokes about the rape of a female missionary, taking Viagra, and the Pope visiting his nation. Duterte's presidency has led to calls of question to the future of the Philippines.
