The boy received care from an ambulance within the convoy and was subsequently transferred to an immediate care facility, where he died soon after. While the ambulance offered their services, the situation was complicated by the fact Powers was travelling through an unsecured area at the time. The Jeep involved in the accident stopped immediately afterwards, but had to be ordered to continue on due to safety concerns.
Powers was travelling to a refugee camp to meet with people who had fled Boko Haram, an African terrorist group.
It's unclear whether the United States will compensate the boy's family for their loss.
