Vietnam's newly elected Prime Minister recently gave an inaugural speech that made a clear point towards China that Vietnam is going to defend its sovereignty and its territory. What the speech was hinting toward was the demand by Vietnam for China to stop drilling for oil at a rig that was built in Vietnam's territorial waters. China ignored Vietnam's request for them to stop the drilling of oil in their territory. China's oil companies continued to drill which resulted in the Vietnamese locals retaliating. The retaliation resulted in several Chinese oil rigs being shut down.
