Ri Su Yong, the foreign minister of North Korea, stated that they will stop nuclear tests if the United States stops holding military drills in South Korea.
Ri claims that North Korea developed nuclear weapons as a form of self-defense due to America's ongoing hostility. He says that if America were to act less hostile, then North Korea would be less hostile in return.
Katina Adams, a spokesman for the American State Department, responded that the military drills were to strengthen the joint capabilities between America and South Korea. Adams also called on North Korea to act in a manner that does not raise tensions.
This comes after North Korea launched a submarine based missle, concerning South Koreans. Should the launch be confirmed, it is a violation of multiple United Nations resolutions.
