Israeli Soldier Who Shot Palestinian to Face Manslaughter Charges

On March 24, there was an incident in Hebron, West Bank involving two Palestinians stabbing an Israeli soldier. Reinforcement troops arrived and shot the pair of Palestinians. One of the Palestinians was injured and lying on the ground when an Israeli soldier walked up to him and shot him in the head. An Israeli human rights group caught the incident on film.

The military released a statement saying that the soldier's actions were against the moral code of the Israeli military. This statement sparked protests supporting the soldier. According to the article, 68% of respondents said the government was wrong to arrest and charge the soldier, 64% said the soldier acted appropriately, and 5% said the soldier's action was murderous. 60,000 people have already signed a petition for the release of the soldier.

This incident creates a larger divide among Israelis and Palestinians during a seven month long violence streak. Palestinians are carrying out attacks with guns, knives, and cars against Israeli civilians and military members. The death tolls are currently 28 Israelis, 189 Palestinians, and 2 Americans.
