In the United States, Mississippi and North Carolina recently passed laws that state that businesses will not be punished for refusing service to LGBT+ people because it is an expression of their religious rights. As a result, the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office has suggested that LGBT+ travelers avoid going to these states. An advocate for the Human Rights Campaign has spoken against the laws and says that it is an embarrassment for the United States to be receiving such negative views.
