This New York Times article from April 8 summarizes the censorship
of The Economist and Time Magazine that has played out during the recent week. On
April 2, the weekly edition of The Economist put China’s president Xi Jinping
on its cover titling: “Beware the cult of Xi”. On the same day, China blocked all internet-access
to the The Economist. Three days later, Time Magazine
was published, also with an article of Xi. This article is now censored from all internet users in China. Both articles are critical to the
rising power that Xi has acquired, and to his rethoric of uniting the people that has some similarities to Mao's (the president leading China to their communist revolution in 1949).
