By Kostantina Taseva- A South Korean President Is Jailed for Graft, but Few Expect Major Change

This article focuses on two main things. First, it discusses the fact that the former South Korean President Park Geun-hye received 24 years sentence after being accused and proven guilty of corruption. On the other hand, the article discusses in details what lead to this outcome and at the same time, highlights that this is not an isolated case, rather it a part of e of the main social issues- corruption between the family-controlled conglomerates known as chaebol and the politicians in charge. In addition, the article points out that since such companies, like Samsung etc., play an important role in the economic growth of South Korean- it is very hard to completely resolve the ongoing corruption. For this reason, although the former President was sentenced and the new President in charge, Moon Jae-in, aims to make reforms and to prevent the chairmen of chaebol companies to conduct corrupt deals, the people believe that the problem can never really go away.
