Cuba without a Castro

This article is about Cuba, and how after its current leader Raul Castro steps down it will mark the first time in more than half a century the leader of Cuba won’t be named Castro. Cuba’s current leader Raul Castro is set to step down as the president of Cuba after The Cuban General Assembly meets to vote on Castro’s successor later this month. This comes after years of leading by the Castro family in Cuba. First Raul’s brother Fidel led the country, and now Raul himself. It is stated that Raul intends to remain at the head of the communist party after his resignation, and will continue to participate in government affairs. The General Assembly is likely to elect Miguel Diaz-Canel who is the current vice president as the new president of the country. It is going to be interesting to see the new policies put in place, including international policies as the new president takes over. This change in power comes at a time where there as been restoration in diplomatic ties between Cuba and the United States, and it will be interesting to see if these ties continue.
