Russia has figured out how to jam U.S. drones in Syria, officials say

This article is about how the Russian military is currently jamming U.S military drones operating in the skies of Syria. U.S officials are stating that this is affecting American military operations. The Russian military began jamming signals after the series of suspected chemical weapon attacks on civilians by the Syrian government in eastern Ghouta. American officials have responded by making statements, these statements include comments by Senator Ben Sasse from Nebraska, when he stated that “Russia wants to undermine our interests at every turn”. Jamming signals include blocking or scrambling a drone’s signal from a GPS satellite, and this could cause them to malfunction or even crash according to the article. The article states that this is not a new tactic being used by Russia, the article mentions that Russia has jammed drones signals in the past in the invasion of Crimea by Russia. Reports are that the equipment being used by the Russian military is highly sophisticated, and has proved effective against encrypted signals and anti-jamming receivers being used by the U.S. It will be interesting to see what comes from this tactic used by Russia as tensions between U.S and Russia escalate in Syria.
