Trump blames Putin, Iran, and Obama for Syrian gas attack

By Raymond Dragunaitis

A gas attack in Syria against the rebel-held town of Douma near Damascus, allegedly by the government forces of President Bashar Assad, killed at least 40 men, women, and children, according to Syrian activists and humanitarian workers. The volunteer rescue group Syrian Civil Defense Force White Helmets released images of children lying motionless and foaming at the mouth from the chemical attack. In a rare personal criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a staunch ally of Assad, U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted that "President Putin, Russia and Iran are responsible for backing Animal Assad." He also places some blame on his predecessor Barack Obama for failing to enforce the "red line" he had set by taking direct military action against the Assad regime after their 2013 chemical attack. When asked about the possibility of American missile strikes against Syria in retaliation, Trump's homeland security adviser, Thomas Bossert, said "I wouldn't take anything off the table."
