To soften image, Kim Jong Un turns spotlight to sister, wife

After proposing conversations with South Korean President Moon Jae-in for later this month, North Korean Dictator Kim Jong-un has taken on a new strategy regarding his international reputation. In pulling his wife (Ri Sol-ju) and sister (Kim Yo-Jong) into the spotlight, it seems that Kim hopes to convey a gentler, more pacifistic image.

Prima Facie, this is not the kind of news that inspires ripples of shock and intrigue from the international community. Yet, observing through the lenses of Feminism and Constructivism, this makes for a highly interesting read! Both women have given the impression of being graceful, feminine, and well versed in the arts, traits widely recognized as distinctly 'feminine', but how does this alter Kim Jong-un's image? Are we seeing Kim exhort peace, indirectly, through femininity? Will other states' perception of Kim actually be altered through this leverage of social capital?
