This article details President Trump's plans to send National Guard troops to the border in response to an alleged caravan of immigrants that plan on crossing the border from an unnamed Central American country. The president began the week bashing Democrats for supporting bills and laws that allow for Homeland Security workers, like Border Patrol Agents, to be less strict on immigrants attempting to cross, sighting the "catch and release" law as one of those lenient bills. Trump is seemingly marking this as the breaking point in which he has no choice but to send troops, but local state National Guards have mixed feelings about this. Many believe that troops are not necessary to help "protect" the border and that instead Border Patrol needs to be given more resources and enforcement ability.

In my opinion, Trump is using the whole "border protection" necessity as leverage to kill the DACA deal, as he is constantly threatening the non-renewal of DACA whenever he brings up issues about the border. This is a fight that will seemingly have no end unless somehow supporters within the general public of DACA and its recipients can mobilize and force local, state, and federal legislators to speak out in support of a new DACA deal.
