My current events post from last week was about the reelection of Viktor Orban, Hungary’s prime minister. This week, the article I read serves as a follow-up to the event, which is the protest that occurred in the country’s capital, in Budapest, yesterday. More than ten thousand people marched on Saturday because they felt the elections unfair last week, many demanding it being done over again. As both articles (this week’s and last week’s) have said, Orban has an anti-migrant message and many citizens far from agree with this opinion. Orban won the majority of votes with only about 50%. Opposing Hungarians decided that they must at least try to do something about this, so they protested.
The protesters walked from the
Opera house to the Parliament building. One protester said that the crowd is
the majority and that they will show their disagreement with the elections peacefully,
but in the embodiment of an enormous crowd. The article mentioned also, that
Orban’s worry is that other parties want to turn Hungary into an “immigration
nation”, with the European Union, the United Nations, and billionaire George
Soros by their side.
