On Thursday, May 5, it was announced that Turkey's President Erdogan fires his own Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu.
Prime Minister Davutoglu has for long been well aligned with President Erdogan, and not had a strong supporter group of his own. Recently though, he has made moves to seemingly strengthen his own position, and most of those have contradicted with the ideas of Erdogan.
Among these moves was to schedule a meeting with Obama, whom Erdogan has "frosty relations" with. Other moves include resistances to Erdogan's domestic policies of changing Turkey to a presidential state, where the prime minister's powers would be clearly confined.
Davutoglu's resistance on these matters was too much for Erdogan. Erdogan has not announced this himself. Instead, he has installed an extra government convention this year, in which Davutoglu announced that he will not run in.
