Donald Trump attempted to stop the DACA program
in 2017 after Texas and other states threatened to sue to force it to end. The
Supreme Court is not likely this term to review the program that protects young
undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children. DACA has come
up in the negotiations over ending the government shutdown. President Trump has
offered to extended temporary protection for those in the program in exchange
for funds to build a border wall. President Trump said he would like to find a
way to protect those in DACA, but attempts to work out a compromise have not
worked due to the debate over immigration and border security.
