Paradise at sea

Islote De Santa Cruz is a very small island the size of two soccer fields. It's located off the coast of Colombia and it's population is roughly estimated at 900. The sea surrounds Santa Cruz like sharks circling prey. With the rising sea level, the island is shrinking and causing residents to build upward. I know what you're thinking, why would anyone want to live here? Simply put, this is paradise to them. "Santa Cruz features a dreamlike, innocent way of life" (Sherriff). There is no crime on the island, which means there's no police as well. This is a small interdependent community who all know each other and rely on each other in one way or another. The closest thing to a government on the island is an impromptu leader; Juve Nal. Tourists are allowed to visit the island, however they cannot stay because there's nowhere for them to stay. It's also important to note that the existing homes on the island are passed down from generation to generation, one cannot buy a home on their slice of paradise.
