In this article called "Turkish troops shoot, wound three civilians in northern Irag," written by Muwafaq Mohammed, Isil Sariyuce and Mohammed Tawfeeq for CNN, it details recent developments in the conflict between Iraqi protesters and the Turkish military. Saturday, Iraqi protesters attacked a Turkish military base in northern Iraq. This tragic event occurred in the city of Duhuk, which is an Kurdish region. The protesters gathered there to protest recent airstrikes carried out by the Turkish military on civilians in Iraq. When the protesters came to the Turkish base they set two military tanks on fire resulting in the following gunshots. The airstrikes have reportedly killed 36 civilians in 2018. These conflicts are a result of ethnic dispute for land in the area. The Turkish claim they were bombing the areas due to a terrorist group known as the PKK being suspected of being located there. Both the United States and European Union have backed Turkey for their declaration of the group as a terrorist organization.
