Elizabeth Warren, the Massachusetts senator and presidential hopeful, is planning on traveling to Puerto Rico next week in response to a Trump administration proposal. The proposal states that they are hoping to redirect Puerto Rican hurricane relief funding toward the controversial border wall. With the island requesting additional funding, and the weeks-long government shutdown, the situation has become a continuous political issue. Trump has since declared that Puerto-Rico's food stamp program was "excessive and unnecessary" and has explored using billions of unspent disaster recovery dollars to satisfy his border wall funds.
