America's "war on drugs" is still affecting Latin America

https://www.history.com/topics/crime/history-of-drug-trafficking

In Latin America, there has been a rise in drug trafficking- related crime. Since the 1970's, the US has spent more than a trillion dollars attempting to decrease the amount of healths incident/ drug cartels in Latin America. The drug money had been used to pay for the radical armed functions in Columbia. according to the Information System regarding Aggressions against Human Rights Defenders, they say that 263 human rights defenders were assassinated. There was also a significant increase in the number of attacks in 2018. As a result, Us-Mexico border are refugees fleeing the violence and hoping to find a better life for their families and themselves. I think that it was great to hear the America was trying to help Latin America to try and decrease the amount of negative health related dangers resulting from cartels in. I think that America should stress the importance of having some sort of stricter law enforcement to decrease drug trafficking related crime. Having laws that are more threatening to those in Latin America will hopefully discourage the amount of people that want to obtain and give out drugs.
