Hong Kong Police and Demonstrators Clash as Tensions Escalate

Tensions quickly escalated during a protest in Hong Kong at the New Town Plaza mall, in Sha Tin. The peaceful protest quickly escalated and turned violent, when protestors punched and kicked a man they accused of being a spy from mainland China. The shift from peaceful protest to violence led to confrontation with law enforcement who began to fire teargas, pepper spray, and bean bags into the crowds, while protestors hurled bricks at the police. This conflict taking place days before the October 1st celebrations of the Peoples Republic's 70th anniversary.
