World postal rates overhauled after US quit threat

There has been an agreement to readjust international shipping rates after a two day conference in Geneva. The Universal Postal Union's (UPU) emergency talk lasted only two days. The US threatened to withdraw from the international union because of China's cheaper export shipping rates. Apparently, it can be cheaper to order and ship from China than to order and ship within the continental US. The UPU has been around for nearly 150 years, setting the rates for international shipping. "Its 193 members are categorised into different postal rates based on their economic and postal development."
