Russia, Ukraine release 70 in major prisoner exchange, Trump calls it a 'first giant step to peace'

This is very good sign but also probably not as big as some may think it is. The conflict between Russia and the Ukraine has been really weird. I honestly, in my research, don't remember why Russia invaded Crimea, but I know that the UN considers it an illegal invasion. The funnier thing is that Russia keeps on denying that they are invading Ukraine, even though they very obviously are. Even more interesting is that many people believe that this is now a proxy war between NATO and Russia. Countries like Canada are proving training and some gear to the Ukranians, while Russia is backing the separatists.
As far as the divided locals in Ukraine, I kind of understand both sides. There is a strong cultural divide between the people. Ukraine used to be part of the soviet union, and eastern Ukraine is very strongly influenced by Russian culture. The Western side is more tradition European. Whenever there is a huge cultural divide, there is always tension.
The exchange of prisoners means that there is at least some peaceful negotiation going on, but I don't really think it means much. Both countries are just looking out for what in there own interest and a peaceful exchange of prisoners I think is for both. When two companies make a deal, its not done out of peace, it's done out of self interest.
Overall it sucks to see this happening. I've met several Russians and one Ukranian. I only remember good things about all of them. I feel like both the Russians and the Ukranians are the kind of people who would be happy to have you in their home for the night, would cook you a nice meal, and would talk all night long if you were in town. I hope this conflict can be fully resolved.
