The Biden administration has reformed on what language can be used when talking about an undocumented person in federal documents. They are wanting to create a more inclusive practice of welcoming immigrants that are contrasted to that of the previous administration. Terminology that has been changed includes the use of “illegal alien,” to “undocumented noncitizen” and “integration” to “assimilation.” The term “alien” and “illegal” when referring to someone is an offensive term that they want to eradicate because of its dehumanizing characteristic. Other people on the right say that the term is not offensive and that it is by definition an accurate representation of what immigrants are. There are also comparisons between the Biden administration and the Trump administration of how they handled immigration with their travel ban on Muslim countries, whereas the Biden administration wants to take on a more positive outlook on immigration.
