Ted Cruz, the senator for Texas, flew to Cancun, Mexico with his family amid the crisis of winter weather that has been pummeling Texans for the last several days. For the last four days, Texas has been without power and running water due to extremely uncommon cold temperatures and a blizzard earlier in the week. He did not apologize for leaving and stated that he and his staff "are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas." He claims that this trip has been planned for his daughters and he just wants to be a good dad. This raises the question if family or your work is more important in this situation. A total of at least 24 people have died because of the winter storms and officials have ordered Texans to boil water due to damaged pipes. Ted Cruz has lost power and heat just like his citizens and he will be returning to Texas on Thursday. I think that this article relates to our conversation in class about the different kinds of democracies and when deciding who to vote into positions of power.
