U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021 (immigration laws)

The Biden Administration is seeking to modernize the United State's immigration policies and the path it takes for immigrants to become US citizens. The act that may be implemented is called the U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021. The act details an 8-year path for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the U.S. to become citizens. They will be required to pass background checks and pay taxes, which will allow them to live in the United States for 5 years. After this 5 year period, these immigrants will be allowed to apply for a green card which allows them permanent status here. This will be followed by another 3 years od residency to be eligible for citizenship. This act also loosens the reigns on family deportations and increases the availability of work visas. 10 republican votes (alongside 50 democratic votes) are needed from the Senate in order for this Act to pass the filibuster.
