In his first major foreign policy address since taking office, President Biden stressed cooperation with western allies, and rejected the former policy of Donald Trump "America First". Some feel as if slight sources of tension may remain from the Trump Presidency, and that allies will have some work to do before relations can be mended. Many European countries applauded Biden's speech saying that the speech was aimed at "Giving you a pat on the back" rather than making demands or criticizing. Biden explained that he was determined to mend relations with Europe, and that he wanted to earn back their trust and re-new their faith in US Leadership. After Trump questioned the relevance of the NATO alliance, suggesting the US may not come to the aid of those who have not been meeting their pledge. Biden used his address to highlight the NATO agreement, saying that an attack on an ally country is still considered an attack on all.
